The Other Side
Snatching a mother off the street as she waits for her children to get out of school will always be wrong. Zip-tying the hands of children will always be wrong. Arresting a person who has not committed a crime and sending them to prison in a far away land without due process will always be wrong.
What we see unfolding before our eyes at the hands of ICE is wrong.
We know it is wrong because we watch ICE agents evade accountability by covering their faces. We watch helplessly as they disappear people, knowing that what they're doing is both unlawful and morally reprehensible.
But there is another side. History has shown us time and again that The People will rise up together against fascist police states. History has shown us that on the other side, there is accountability for those who commit the most heinous, brutal and unlawful acts against humanity.
It will take time, sacrifice, solidarity, and collective effort, but together we will get to the other side. And we will demand accountability from those who choose to orchestrate and commit crimes against our brothers and sisters. Those who disregard our laws and norms today in pursuit of their White utlra-nationalist vision of our future, will someday have to be accountable to actions rooted in a belief system that dictates people should be divided and segregated along tribal lines of ethnicity, nationality, and religion. They are using ICE as their 21st Century American Gestapo, and they are disregarding our laws and basic human decency in pursuit of their racist, segregationist ambitions.

Those calling the shots would do well to remember the Nuremberg trials. As would all ICE agents who allow themselves to be used as props in this fascist power grab. Remember: "I was following orders" was rejected as a valid defense at Nuremberg. The donning of masks implies that ICE agents know the orders they're receiving are unjust and unlawful. Trump won't rule forever.
